From Engineering to Photography: My Journey into Visual Storytelling
When I graduated in 2004 with a degree in civil engineering, I realized that I was more of an architectural enthusiast than a conventional engineer. Since childhood, designing living spaces and exploring architectural forms had fascinated me. Consequently, I knew my professional path would extend beyond standard engineering projects.
Later, moving to Kalkan, a small Mediterranean town, and opening my first office allowed me to engage with some truly remarkable structures. For instance, many of our English clients were captivated by contemporary homes with expansive pools and multiple bedrooms. However, despite designing impressive buildings, I quickly recognized that marketing these properties relied heavily on high-quality photography.
Because local photographers could not consistently meet the standards I envisioned, I took matters into my own hands. Interestingly, capturing buildings through a camera lens proved nearly as satisfying as designing them. Since purchasing my first camera, I have spent 17 years photographing my own constructions, refining an eye for light, perspective, and storytelling.
Upon relocating to Toronto in 2023, I encountered diverse architectural styles and recognized vast opportunities in real estate and architectural photography. Moreover, the city’s vibrant nightlife and dynamic energy drew me toward event and creative photography. Therefore, my journey combines technical expertise, architectural knowledge, and artistic vision, creating images that not only document spaces but also tell compelling stories that engage and inspire.
Ultimately, each photograph I take is a balance of precision and emotion, structure and artistry. By combining my engineering background with a passion for visual storytelling, I aim to transform every project into a narrative that resonates with viewers, whether it’s a home, a commercial space, or a moment captured at an event.
Conclusion
From a young architectural enthusiast to a civil engineer, and finally a Toronto real estate and creative photographer, my journey highlights the synergy between structure and artistry. Every photo I create combines technical mastery, visual storytelling, and a deep understanding of the spaces I photograph. This journey continues to shape how I capture moments, properties, and stories that engage and inspire.
